Hi everyone, it’s me again with a new blogpost. I’ve been away for a couple of weeks, and I’m sorry for that. I’ve discovered a new game that has kept me from writing: Pokémon Go. In fact, I’m playing this game right now while writing this post. In this blogpost, I’m going to go over my experiences with the game and how it evolved into an addiction. Let’s jump right into it.
The start of something new
It all started in the beginning of July. All of my friends played Pokémon Go for a couple of months and they’ve tried numerous times to get me into playing it. I always was on defense about it, because I thought that the game would use up a lot data and battery life. But, July 4th 2020 was the day that I downloaded the game.
On that day, my friends were going to hang out nearby in Leuven. So, it made sense to hangout with them while they played the game. When I arrived at the train station in Leuven, two of my friends were already catching some pokémons. While we waited for another friend, I said: ‘So, I heared that Pokémon Go uses up a lot of battery, is that true?’. They said that if you walked with a battery pack on you, you would never have any trouble with battery issues. That answer already gave me a good feeling, because I have a strong battery pack at home. Then I asked: ‘What about data? Do you need a lot it?’. They said that it doesn’t really consume a lot of data and that they don’t have a lot of data. After I heared that and some more gentle persuation, I instantly downloaded the game.
When the other friend arrived, we were going on an adventure through Leuven to catch some Pokémon. I don’t remember a lot, but I do remember that I levelled up to level 15 in just one day. We also joined a 5 star raid to get the legendary pokémon Ho-Oh. There were like 15 people or so doing the raid, so it was a very popular pokémon. My friends told me that you’ll have a chance to get a shiny version of pokémons, so I was hyped. And, wouldn’t you know it. I got my first shiny legendary pokémon on my first day playing the game. It doesn’t have great stats, but that doesn’t matter
Pokémon go, I choose you!
After that awesome game, I didn’t touch the game for two weeks. My mindset was that I would only play the game with friends. One day, I felt really boring at home so I’ve decided to walk a little bit and play the game again. I walked around my neighbourhood for a while and suddenly I stumbled upon a huge park with a lot of Pokéstops and pokémon to catch. That day, I walked for hours and hours through that park. I caught everything I saw and I think I walked like 8 km that day. And thus, my addiction started to grow. Everyday, I went to that park for hours on end. I levelled up insanely fast from 15 tot 27.
I also joined Pokémon Go Fest this year from July 25th to July 26th. This event would normally take place in the US or Germany, but due to COVID-19 it was a worldwide event. That was also very wonderful to experience with my friends. I have a lot of things to talk about, so expect another blogpost about that! 😉
